Frequently asked questions

Is transparency kept?

Yes. WebP supports transparent areas, even with lossy compression.

Lossy or lossless?

For photos and screenshots automatic quality is usually enough. For logos, text and pixel art choose “Lossless” under Settings; all visible pixels then stay unchanged.

Is WebP always smaller than PNG?

Usually, especially for photos and gradients. Very small or single-color graphics can stay smaller as PNG. Tailorpix shows you the size before and after.
