Frequently asked questions

How much smaller does my JPG get?

That depends on the image. Photos straight from a camera or phone often shrink a lot, already optimized images hardly at all. If the result is not smaller, Tailorpix keeps your original.

Is metadata removed?

Yes. Tailorpix removes camera data, thumbnails and comments; the color profile stays. If a photo stores its rotation in EXIF data, that data stays in lossless mode so the image displays the right way up.

Can I compress JPG losslessly?

Partly. In “Lossless” mode Tailorpix only removes metadata and leaves the image data unchanged. Bigger savings require re-encoding, which is always lossy for JPG.
